The Chambers Blackstone Chambers is a long established set, combining formidable strengths in commercial litigation, EU and competition, public international law, human rights, administrative and public law, and employment, with state of the art facilities and a friendly and open approach to client service.
Work Undertaken Chambers' practice breaks down into the following main practice areas:
Commercial: Specialisations include international trade; banking; insurance and reinsurance; insolvency; carriage of goods; conflict of laws; corporate fraud; financial services; regulation and regulatory tribunals; shipping; defamation; intellectual property; media and entertainment, and sports law.
Public Law & Human Rights: Work includes judicial review, both for and against public bodies and regulatory authorities, arising from decisions and areas such as: freedom of expression; equality of treatment; immigration; education; social security; housing; planning; local government. Human rights advice and expertise is available across the spectrum of practice areas, both in the public law and commercial fields. The combined expertise of members of chambers in commercial and public law also proves particularly valuable in City regulation and financial services cases.
Employment Law: Experience covers the full range of employment law cases from pure contract work to sex, race, disability, religion and age discrimination.
Mediation: Chambers recognises the increasingly important role which mediation has to play in dispute resolution. Seven members are CEDR accredited mediators.
Publications These are many in number and include: Dicey & Morris (14th ed); Principles of Public International Law (6th ed); The Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties and International Law Commission; DeSmith Woolf and Jowell: Judicial Review of Administrative Action (2007); Judicial Review Handbook; Halsbury on the European Convention of Human Rights; Lester, Pannick and Herberg: Human Rights - Law and Practice (3rd ed 2009); Constitutional Law & Human Rights; European Employment Law and the UK; Basic Documents on Human Rights; Civil Jurisdiction and Judgments (4th ed); The Conflict of Laws (2nd ed); Sport: Law and Practice (2nd ed, 2008); Blackstone's guide to The Employment Equality Regulations, 2003; Using International Law in Domestic Courts, 2005; Free and Fair Elections, 2006; Administrative Courts: Practice and Procedure, 2006; The Refuge in International Law, 2007; Employee Competition: Covenants, Confidentiality, and Garden Leave (2007); Tolley's Discrimination in Employment Handbook (2008); Human Rights: Judicial Protection in the UK (2008); Extreme Speech and Democracy (2009).
International European law with its ever growing impact on national law is an integral part of chambers' practice in all areas of specialism. Chambers also has a strong tradition of practice in the specialised field of public international law. Several members of chambers are highly experienced in advising in litigation in public international law disputes arising before national and international courts and tribunals. Members of chambers have a wide-ranging experience of advocacy before English, European and Commonwealth courts and tribunals, and frequently appear before the European Courts of Justice and the European Court of Human Rights. Languages spoken include Finnish, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Punjabi, Spanish, Swedish and Urdu.
