Specialisation: Defamation - the most well known case being for B J Eastwood against the boxer Barry McGuigan, resulting in an award of £450,000. Has acted for a number of international personalities including Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Harrison Ford, Neil Jordan and Chris De Burgh. Acted for Robert McCartney QC, the former MP for North Down, who was awarded £80,000 in a high profile case against The Irish Times on the eve of the 1997 General Election, and for the actor Liam Neeson against a number of Irish newspapers. Has represented the Irish band The Corrs, Van Morrison, Keith Duffy and Patrick Kielty and was also involved in multiple defamation actions against UK and US-based internet book distributors, requiring the issue of what is believed to be the largest number of Writs in respect of the publication of one book. Acts for a number of other high profile media, political, public, business and legal personalities and also on the defence side for newspapers (including The Sunday Times) and other publications, in both Belfast and Dublin. Other areas of media practice include copyright and related entertainment work. Personal injury - has had more than 20 years of experience in acting for a number of major insurance companies in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
