The Chambers Bar Awards were held at The Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, on 4th October 2007, with some 520 guests in attendance. Master of Ceromonies Clive Anderson kept the guests amused with his customary wit as he announced the nominees and winners in a host of different categories. Of the winners, One Essex Court was the most notable. It won Set of the Year as well as the Banking and Commercial Litigation categories, emulating Fountain Court Chambers unprecedented treble in the previous year.
The highlight of the evening came with the bestowing of the three lifetime achievement awards. Sir Jeremy Lever KMCG QC, Stephen Graham, and Sir Elihu Lauterpacht QC all made splendid and engaging addresses to the floor when picking up their awards. All displayed wit, charm and humility on the evening, none more so than Sir Elihu whose relaxed, effortless and ultimately hilarious speech brought a smile to everyones face and earned him a standing ovation.
